The Alpine flowers garden was founded in 1976 by a group of idealists of the Reutten Mountain Rescue. The climatically convenient location allowed for re-introducing a variety of rare plants.

The initiators managed to cultivate the garden, giving back to the plants their natural environment (rocks, boulders, etc.) while preserving the appearance of the original scenery. The entire region of the Alpine Garden comprises about 6 hectares of a mountain meadow. It is located above the Reutten funicular top station, in the Höfener Alpe pasture at the Hahnenkamm mountain.
