An easy stretch through one of the few untouched natural landscapes in Europe. The route leads through riverside forests and gravel banks along the Lech river (one of the last remaining unregulated rivers in the Alps), through meadows and fields in the agriculturally utilized countryside. Different villages and towns on the way provide the possibility to go for a meal or even tempt you to spend the night.
From the train station in Reutte, go past the bus stop along the 'Bahnhofsstrasse' to the Tourism Office, left past the short-term parking zone, and turn right after the 'Sparkasse' bank down the 'Untergsteig' hill in the direction of Lechaschau. After the Lech bridge, go left and follow the cycling signpost (which is the beginning of the cycling path route 'Lechtal') in the direction of 'Höfen' .Cycle through the built-up area to the sports field in Höfen. Here look out for the sign indicating 'Weissenbach'.
From the small airfield onwards, follow the cycling route parallel to the main road. This leads to the cycling path alongside the river through sunny pine forests carpeted with heather to Weissenbach, where you will find a sign pointing to 'Vorderhornbach'. After the flooded gravel pit in Weissenbach, cycle under the 'Johannesbrücke' bridge. Along a forest road somewhat higher than the Lech, go past the 'Stuiben' hut across pasture land and through spruce woodland in the direction of the sharply-peaked 'Hornbachkette' mountain range.
From the suspension bridge in Forchach the extensive Errach riverside forest with ecologically interesting river plains begins. Willows and tamarind bushes grow in the lime moor landscape. Some distance further - you are no longer cycling directly along the river, but through the sparse vegetation of the ancient river bed. Cycle past the 'Feldele' hunting lodge. A little later you will pass dense young forest and go over the 'Schwarzwasser' brook bridge. When the route back alongside the river crosses the road, the Namlos valley opens up before you. Cycle along a farm track to Vorderhornbach, situated where the Hornbach valley meets the Namlos valley. Cycle from the church in Vorderhornbach in the direction of 'Martinau'. After the Hornbach bridge the signpost on the cycling path Lechtal points the way to 'Häselgehr'. Go along the farm track to Martinau. At the foot of the huge Klimmspitze peak cycle past the 'Wildfütterung' (this is where the deer are fed in winter) through the so-called 'Nussau' to the Weiler Klimm.
The Lech is now getting noticeably narrower. On a tarmac farm track go over the wild 'Wasserfallbach'. Here there is a splendid view of the 'Bschlaber' valley and the high pass road of the Hahntennjoch. Between the Lichtspitze peak und den dolomite pinnacles of the Hornbach range, ride on to Häselgehr, pausing to take a look at the lovely facade paintings on the buildings there. From the church in Häselgehr a signpost with information point shows the direction to 'Elbigenalp'. The zig-zag course through the village is adequately signposted. Small farm tracks lead you over meadows beneath the grassy flanks of the dramatic Pfeilerspitze mountain towards the rocky pyramid of the Ruitelspitze peak to Schönau.
After a short stretch of cycle path, carefully cross the main road and continue along the cycle path through patches of woodland over another Lech bridge to Griessau. Go along a narrow road through fields, and after another bridge to the Elbigenalp church. Cycle uphill through the village at the the foot of the mighty grass-covered sides of the Rotwand mountain. Notice the exhibited wood carvings. Cycle in the direction of the valley through the small village of Untergiblen and past the house where the legendary 'Geierwally' was born. At the drinking fountain, follow the farm track marked as 'Griessau'. By the Lech river, turn into the tarmac road, cycle through riverside forest and once again cross the river. On traffic-free field roads, the angular Feuerspitze peak in front of you, go to Grünau, turning into Bach at the mouth of the 'Alperschon' stream. From the centre of the village of Bach, cycle in the direction of the valley on the main road.
At the end of the village the signpost with information point directs you to 'Holzgau' along the Lechtal cycling path. On a farm track over flat meadows cycle to Stockach. Here you must cycle for a short while along the main road through the village. Cycling past the last houses of the village, go over the 'Sulzlbach' bridge, again on a farm track. At the entrance to the wild 'Sulzltal' valley go over the Lech bridge and along the banks of the river. Further on, the track has an asphalt surface, and goes over the 'Höhenbach' stream. Before you get to Dürnau, cross the Lech again and cycle in the direction of the signpost 'Steeg'. A little later again cross a river bridge, cycling past the Walchen hamlet to 'Hägerau'. Cross the river again for the last time and cycle through the village of Dickenau to your destination - 'Steeg' at the mouth of the 'Kaiserbach' stream.
