The Pleasures of Summer – Recreation in the Nature Park Region of Reutte
In the Nature Park Region of Reutte the gently sloping hills and jagged mountain ranges of the Lechtal and Allgäuer Alps are mirrored in the tranquil waters of the crystal clear Plansee, Urisee, Frauensee, Lechausee and Alatsee lakes. Here and there splashing disturbs the surface – two swimmers enjoy the first rays of sun, or after a lengthy walk along the shores of the lake a dog and its owners delight in the refreshing water and a small boy plays ‘ducks and drakes‘ with his father.
The transition from mountains and valleys, streams and lakes, meadows and forests combined with rustic charm and urban flair invites many families, active holidaymakers and those who enjoy a more sedate pace to the Nature Park Region of Reutte for a restful hiking holiday in the mountains. In particular the 125 kilometre long Lechweg Trail, a moderate long-distance hiking trail, provides pleasurable recreation and regeneration from day to day stress. The Lech Cycling Trail, a 55 kilometre long stretch off the Lechweg Trail, offers cyclists and mountain bike fans a cycling tour from Steeg to Reutte. Cycle along the turquoise blue waters of the Lech mountain river, surrounded by myriads of wild flowers which grow along the banks of the wild river.
Should you however set your sights high – and admire from above the picturesque villages, the blue, turquoise and green shimmering lakes, and the mountain ranges in the far distance, innumerable mountain huts invite you to stop by for a meal or a snack after an extensive mountain hike. The contented hiker can then enjoy Tyrolean hospitality and culinary delicacies while sitting on the comfortable sunny terrace.
The circular trail to the ‘Stuibenfällen‘ waterfalls is a tip for the adventurous hiker. The highline179, one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in Tibetan style, promises an adrenalin rush. At a dizzying height,115 metres above the main road to Reutte, take the tentative first step over the swaying bridge from the Ehrenberg ruins to Fort Claudia. The more courageous among us can stop at the centre of the bridge, look down at the tiny cars below, and enjoy the view of the wide valley. Others take one step after the other and enjoy the feeling when, after walking for 406 metres, they can finally feel firm ground under their feet once again.
The Ehrenberg Alpine Spa is only one of the many activities where the guests to the Nature Park Region of Reutte may enjoy reductions thanks to the free Active Card.
